Who I Am
I have picked and foraged plants and flowers my whole life; I have rarely met a plant I can ‘walk past’. My unending desire to capture the unique colors and forms in nature drive me to draw and paint every day. Being a computer scientist as well, allows me to combine my desire for precision with the natural rhythm found in plants and flowers. My work celebrates the intricate structures and subtle variations of light and shadow that often go unnoticed. Through close observation and fine detail, I hope to bridge scientific accuracy with artistic expression, inviting viewers to slow down and truly see the beauty of the natural world. My background in technology is reflected in my interest in the fine details. I am committed to continually growing in my craft through formal and informal education, pursuing challenging certificates and surrounding myself with gifted and generous artists.
I became a single mother at twenty, raising two children while putting myself through college, where I earned a degree in Information Technology with highest honors and was recognized in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Throughout the demands of a technology career and the responsibilities of raising my children on my own, I held fast to art—drawing and painting whenever time allowed and studying whenever opportunity arose. Life later expanded to include four children and a deeply supportive husband; I devoted many years to my family’s growth and education. Now, in retirement, I have returned fully to my first love. I draw and paint every day, grateful for the rare and precious gift of time to devote myself completely to art once again. I hope to continually grow, flourish and bloom, just as my children did. I will never stop learning or wanting to learn. I hope to be a student of life and art until the day I die.
Teaching
I teach beginner botanical watercolors at the Pembroke Community Center in Pembroke, MA. I find passing along the information I have learned through studying botanical art over the past 17 years is incredibly fulfilling. I love seeing my students learn and flourish!
