I began my journey as an artist when I was about 10 years old drawing cartoons in an old notebook. In high school I took four years of art, where I discovered oil painting and drawing. In my senior year, I won a Gold Key in the Boston Globe Art Show. I continued to draw and paint with various mediums until I discovered the precision and control of botanical watercolor art. I have been addicted ever since.

The tiny details in life intrigue me.  I love to get lost in the folds and veins of botanical subjects.  The overall beauty of an image is always my end goal, but it’s those minute frills, edges, wrinkles and markings that I love to capture.  Drawing and painting is my ‘mental yoga’.

What is Botanical Art?

One explanation is: Botanical Illustration is a genre of art that endeavours to faithfully depict and represent the form, colour, character and detail of a plant, identifiable to species or cultivar level. The best botanical illustration successfully combines scientific accuracy with visual appeal. It must portray a plant with the precision and level of detail for it to be recognised and distinguished, from another species.
